Frequently Asked Questions

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adult (OSYA) learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills, and to access equivalent pathways to complete basic education.

The ALS Act, or Republic Act No. 11510, provides support to ensure that more out-of-school children (in special cases), youth and adults (OSCYA) have access to quality basic education and will be ready for higher education or work. The Department of Education’s ALS Program is a parallel non-formal learning system, for learners that had no access to formal education.

The program is based on a contextualized version of the K to 12 basic education curriculum designed specifically to meet the learning needs and situations of OSCYA. Some of these OSCYA who explicitly expressed desire to acquire basic quality education are those who have migrated to other countries and those belonging to special cases.

Adults – Filipinos age 18 years old and above who were not able to finish their Senior High School

OFW - Filipinos working abroad

Special Cases - Senior High School students that may not able to continue due to the following reasons:

     1. Early Pregnancy
     2. Person With Disability
     3. Financial shortage that leads to early seeking of job
     4. Original AF5(only for learners who graduated in ALS JHS)

Interested ALS learners should complete and submit the following requirements to ALS teachers in your area or to the Schools Division/District Office:

     1. Photocopy of birth certificate (PSA) / baptismal certificate
     2. 2x2 ID picture (white background)
     3. Form 137 (only for learners from the formal education system)

Upon submission of all the required documents, the ALS learner should be registered by the ALS teacher in the Learner Information System (LIS). A unique Learner Reference Number (LRN) will be issued if successfully enrolled in the system. Note that each learner, whether in ALS or in the formal education system, should possess one LRN only.

Ang ALS enrollment ay karaniwang ginagawa nang personal o face-to-face sa DepEd Division Office, public schools at mga community learning center (CLC) sa mga barangay.
